William J. Jones Most people call me Bill. I have been with Turnipseed & Associates since May of 1998. My South Carolina Bar Membership began in November of 1999. I am a proud member of both the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association. While the cases I work on are varied, my primary focus is working for those injured in automobile collisions, by dangerous products, or while on an unsafe premises. I have also done work in cases involving police misconduct and medical malpractice. I am looking to further my experience in the area of Family Law. I am not originally from South Carolina. I was born in Ohio and spent most of my life moving due to my father’s twenty plus years of service in the Army. Being a military dependent provided me with great opportunities to see many things throughout the world and to meet and relate to varying types of people. I attended Indiana University where I obtained my B.A. in Political Science and attempted to polish my social skills as a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. I then attended the University of South Carolina Law School where I graduated with my J.D. in May of 1999. So why be a lawyer, especially a trial lawyer? Let me start off saying that I am proud to be a trial lawyer and to represent real people. I am sure if you would have asked me when I was a kid, I would have told you I wanted to be a lawyer so I could be rich. As I have grown I have learned that some of the greatest satisfaction in life comes from helping others. The greatest moment in my life was the birth of my daughter, Kylie. The second happened the day I was leaving Indiana to move back to Georgia with my family. A young man who had worked for me came by to say goodbye. As he started to speak, he began to cry. He thanked me not for just being a friend but for believing in him when no one else did, for giving him a chance and giving him confidence. That day he told me that I would never understand how much I had helped him -- that I had changed his life. His expression of gratitude affected me profoundly. Being a lawyer, a trial lawyer, provides me the opportunity to help others and to make a difference in their lives. People are often hurt through no fault of their own but rather due to the negligence of others. These people are often faced not only with devastating injuries but the corresponding medical bills, lost wages due to not being able to work and with the emotional stress and scars from being injured. I have the opportunity to help these people understand their rights and help them be fairly compensated for what has happened to them. I cannot treat their injuries or relieve their pain but I can give them someone to believe in and trust is on their side. I also have the opportunity to help make those who refuse to take responsibility for their actions accountable. Why be a trial lawyer? Because I believe someone needs to help those who have been injured and have nowhere else to turn and to hold accountable those who do wrong. I am proud to be a trial lawyer. I am proud to represent people that have been injured. I am proud of who I am. |
